Designed by the renowned French engineer Gustave Eiffel, the importance of the markets it’s not only about the architecture and trade, but also as an attractive leisure of the people of Olhão and their visitors, revealing an intense activity diurnal and nocturnal.

The street market that happens every Saturday morning, is unique in the Algarve region. A group of small farmers and producers in the region expose and sell their products, providing those who visit an unparalleled mix of colors and smells.

The Headquarters and Interpretation Centre of the Ria Formosa Natural Park is situated in Quinta do Marim, in Olhão. Here you you can find an example of the ecosystems diversity of the Ria Formosa.

You can also visit a Roman Archaeological Station from the 4th century, a windmill, a tuna barge, a bird observatory, an aquarium, the Poet João Lúcio’s Chalet where currently functions an environment-education center, a bird recuperation center and a Portuguese Water Dog’s breeding center.

Barrier Islands

In Armona Island you can walk along the large beach of white sand, and observe the architecture of many different beach houses present there.

The Culatra Island is small fishing community who live there all year and live from what the sea and the Ria Formosa bring to them. The island has a school, a small church, shops and a variety of restaurants, where you can enjoy the best and freshest cuisine of the Ria Formosa.

The famous Farol Island (Lighthouse Island), it’s the point most south of Portugal, is undoubtedly unique. Its clear waters lead to the discovery of a world of new experiences of marine life. With boat access, with careers every 15 minutes and only 10 minutes driving, the Fuseta Island is a paradise location that you will not want to miss.

Located near Estoi, 3km's from Quinta dos Poetas, the ruins have uncovered a complex built in the third century, consisting of a manor house large, agricultural facilities, a bathhouse and a temple. They haven’t yet explored the initial constructions of the century I.

The historic center of Faro, is partly surrounded by what still remains of the ancient castle walls.

In the Old Town, it seems even hear the gibberish of the Moors echoing in the streets and cobbled squares. However, at Praça Afonso III, there is the statue of the king, yet vigilant, irrefutable testimony of the Reconquest of the city by Christians.

Here are situated some of the most important and ancient monuments, landmarks of a subsequent history of people and customs such as the Cathedral, the Church of Mercy, the Episcopal Palace or the Live Science Museum.

In the Algarve, more specifically in the eastern Algarve, there is a vast production of olive oil with high quality, already internationally recognized through several awards.

The Monterosa Extra Virgin Olive Oil comes from 20 hectares of olive groves which are explored in Moncarapacho. The olives are picked by hand and transported immediately to the mill of Monterosa nurseries. There are grinded with granite millstones, a mechanical process that dates back to Roman times. The oil is extracted, filtered, stored in stainless steel tanks and bottled using the latest technology.

The result is an olive oil of the highest quality: Monterosa Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
